A major fire broke out late Thursday night at the AYM Shafa filling station in Abuja’s Area 3 district, triggering an emergency response as firefighters worked through the night to contain the raging blaze.
The incident, which started at about 10 p.m., sent flames billowing from the petrol station, raising concerns among residents and motorists in the busy area. As of the time of reporting, emergency crews were still battling the fire.
The cause of the fire had not been confirmed, but personnel from the Federal Fire Service were swiftly deployed to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings and other facilities.
The National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, said the agency immediately activated emergency response measures to bring the situation under control while protecting lives and property.
“The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja. We understand the concern this situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners and members of the public, and we assure everyone that their safety remains our highest priority,” Abraham said.
He added that firefighters were working tirelessly to confine the blaze and minimise the risk of further damage. Authorities also appealed to residents and onlookers to stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel to carry out their operations safely and without obstruction.
Motorists were advised to avoid the Area 3 corridor and use alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion around the scene. Traffic officials and other emergency agencies were also deployed to support the response efforts.
The Federal Fire Service assured the public that updates would be provided as more verified information becomes available. No casualties or the extent of property damage had been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
