The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the deployment of eight new Commissioners of Police (CPs) to state commands across Nigeria and appointed a new Commandant for the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, as part of efforts to strengthen policing and improve operational efficiency.
The appointments were announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Commission’s spokesperson, Torty Njoku, who said the changes followed the recent promotion of several senior police officers and were designed to meet operational needs across the country.
Among the new postings, CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Training and Development, has been deployed to Abia State. CP Ayodeji Faniyan, previously serving with the Police Cooperative in Lagos, takes over as Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, while CP Saka Adewale Ajao, formerly with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Gombe, has been posted to Bayelsa State.
The Commission also approved the deployment of CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue to Cross River State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama to Anambra State, CP Patrick Daaor to Edo State, CP Tijani Murtala to Jigawa State, and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo to Delta State.
In addition to the state command appointments, the PSC named Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
According to the Commission, AIG Mohammed brings more than 33 years of policing experience, covering operations, criminal investigations, intelligence-led policing and police training. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University.
Throughout his career, Mohammed has served as Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 3 and Zone 6. He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
Addressing the newly appointed officers, Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC, rtd), who presided over the session on behalf of the Commission, urged them to uphold professionalism, remain politically neutral, respect the rule of law and discharge their responsibilities with integrity. Other PSC members present included Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, Hon. Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Commission’s Secretary.
