Fresh controversy has resurfaced around the leaked intimate video involving the Presiding Pastor of Zionwealth of Life Assembly in Lekki, Lagos, Apostle Chris Omatsola, and his former partner, Tamaratokoni Okpe, as both parties continue to offer conflicting accounts of how the footage found its way online.
Okpe, a Delta State native, alleged that the cleric released the video after she ended their relationship in 2018, claiming it was an attempt to pressure her into marrying him. Omatsola has denied the allegation, insisting that the footage was leaked by unknown persons as part of a plot to blackmail and extort him.
Speaking about the relationship, Okpe said they began dating in February 2018 and were together for about seven months. According to her, the relationship became intimate and the couple recorded private photos and videos together. She alleged that the relationship later turned abusive, claiming the pastor repeatedly assaulted her before she eventually decided to end it.
Okpe further claimed that after breaking off the relationship in August 2018, Omatsola continued trying to reconcile with her. She alleged that on October 13, 2018, she received threatening messages, intimate photographs and videos from an anonymous WhatsApp number warning that the materials would be published if she refused to reunite with him. She said the content later surfaced online the same day.
The Computer Science graduate said the matter was immediately reported to the police, leading to the pastor’s arrest. She further alleged that Omatsola admitted responsibility during discussions involving their families and agreed to compensate her. According to Okpe, she possesses a recorded video of the alleged confession.
Responding to the allegations, Omatsola rejected every accusation against him. He questioned why he would deliberately release a video that clearly showed his own identity, arguing that doing so would destroy both his ministry and reputation. He also maintained that a video in which he reportedly confessed to releasing the footage was made under pressure while he was in police custody.
The pastor further claimed that he was detained after his arrest and only made the recorded statement on the advice of his father and lawyer to secure his release on bail. He also alleged that his former partner demanded ₦200 million from him over the incident, an allegation she has consistently denied.
Reacting to the case, the then Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, confirmed that investigators handled the complaint and later transferred it to the Gender Unit because of its nature. He stated that the police investigation was ongoing at the time and rejected Omatsola’s claim that officers forced him to make a confession, insisting that the statement was made voluntarily. The police also said they were unaware of any financial settlement allegedly reached between both parties.
The matter remains one of the most talked-about relationship scandals involving a Nigerian cleric, with both parties maintaining sharply different versions of events while the allegations and counter-allegations continue to attract public attention.
