The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, came under attack, describing the claims as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents and the public.
In a statement issued on Monday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, the ministry said the school remains safe, with all students, staff and facilities fully accounted for.
According to the statement, there was no attack on the Federal Government-owned college, and academic activities are continuing without disruption. The ministry stressed that reports linking a recent security incident in Monguno to the school were inaccurate and misleading.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority. He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under strengthened security arrangements designed to safeguard students, staff and school infrastructure.
The minister further clarified that none of the college’s students was involved in the reported security incident. He explained that those affected were remedial students outside the institution, adding that the Borno State Government is already taking steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The ministry urged media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing reports. It warned that the spread of unverified information could create unnecessary fear, mislead the public and undermine confidence in efforts to secure educational institutions.
Parents and guardians were also advised to remain calm, as there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno. The ministry reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to maintain safe learning environments across Federal Government Colleges nationwide.
It also called on the public to disregard reports suggesting that the college was attacked, insisting that the claims are entirely false.
