Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has dismissed claims that music star Davido played a financial role in his rise or supported his non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The influencer made the clarification while addressing long-standing public perceptions about his relationship with the Afrobeats singer following their reported fallout nearly three years after they first became associated.
VeryDarkMan and Davido became close in October 2023 after the singer invited him to Lagos. At the time, VDM shared videos praising the hospitality he received, including a clip in which he admired a hotel room he claimed had been arranged for him by the singer.
However, speaking in a recent video, VeryDarkMan said that narrative was left unchallenged for entertainment purposes and did not accurately reflect what happened.
According to him, he personally paid for both his flight to Lagos and his hotel accommodation, contrary to widespread claims that Davido sponsored the trip.
“That time I went to Lagos to meet Davido, I paid for my flight ticket, and I paid for the hotel where I stayed. We just left people to believe otherwise for entertainment purposes,” he said in Pidgin English.
The social media activist also denied reports that Davido contributed financially to his NGO. He maintained that he never requested financial support from the singer and had not received any money from him since they became acquainted.
“People said Davido contributed to your NGO. That’s not true. I never asked him to make any contribution. He was the one who said he would do something, but I never asked him. Ask Davido if I’ve ever collected even ₦1,000 from him since he has known me,” he added.
Neither Davido nor his representatives had publicly responded to VeryDarkMan’s latest remarks as of the time of filing this report.
