Panic swept through Government Secondary School (GSS) Olowa in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State after armed men stormed the school during an ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examination and abducted the principal, four students and a NECO ad hoc official.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, disrupting the examination as the gunmen invaded the school premises and whisked away the victims to an unknown location.
According to security reports, the assailants kidnapped the school principal, four candidates sitting for the examination and a NECO ad hoc staff member before escaping.
Security operatives responded swiftly to the incident, launching a joint search-and-rescue operation to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
Sources said one of the abducted students has already been rescued, while efforts have intensified to locate and free the remaining captives.
The ongoing operation includes bush-combing exercises, intelligence gathering and surveillance across the affected area as security agencies work to identify the kidnappers’ hideout.
Investigations into the attack are continuing, with authorities determined to arrest those responsible and restore calm in the community.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the security of schools in parts of Nigeria, particularly during national examinations, where students and education workers remain vulnerable to attacks.
