The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Bauchi State.
Police said the suspect, identified as Muhammad Makama, allegedly lured the child into his room before committing the offence. The incident was reported to the ‘E’ Division Police Station in Yelwa on the night of July 5, 2026, after the girl’s mother lodged a formal complaint.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, officers responded immediately by taking the child to the police clinic for medical examination and treatment.
The police also confirmed that the suspect received medical attention after he was reportedly assaulted by angry residents following the allegation. He was later discharged and taken into police custody.
SP Nafiu said the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where detectives have commenced a detailed investigation ahead of possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged offence and assured residents that the command would handle the case professionally and ensure justice is served in accordance with the law.
The police also urged members of the public to promptly report cases involving children and other vulnerable persons, stressing that early reporting helps investigators preserve evidence and improve the chances of successful prosecution.
