Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested three men suspected of supplying illicit drugs to terrorists and other criminal groups in Katsina State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday during an operation in Kagara village, Kafur Local Government Area, as security agencies intensified efforts to disrupt criminal supply networks in the state.
Makama, citing security sources, said the operation was carried out at about 5:15 p.m. by troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Malumfashi working alongside personnel of the NDLEA Area Command, Malumfashi.
The sources said the raid targeted suspected drug distribution points believed to be supplying illicit substances to criminal elements operating within Kafur and surrounding communities.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Lawan (34), Muhawiya Haruna (40) and Junadata Usman (40).
Items reportedly recovered during the operation included substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, tramadol capsules, pregabalin, diazepam, Extol-5 tablets, rubber solution, and a substance identified as “Suck and Die” spirit.
According to the security sources quoted by Makama, preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were allegedly involved in supplying hard drugs and other intoxicating substances to terrorists and criminal groups operating in the area. Those allegations have not been independently verified by OtownGist.
The suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to the NDLEA Area Command in Malumfashi for further investigation and possible prosecution. Security agencies say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the logistics and supply chains that allegedly sustain terrorism and other criminal activities across Katsina State.
