Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shared the emotional reason she ensured her ex-husband attended their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, saying she was determined to break a cycle she believes has affected generations of her family.
Priscilla married her Tanzanian partner, Juma Jux, in April 2025 during a series of lavish wedding ceremonies held in Lagos and Tanzania. The celebrations attracted celebrities, family members and fans from across Nigeria and East Africa.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Iyabo said her decision to include her former husband in the ceremony was intentional and rooted in her desire to give her children a different family experience from the one she had growing up.
The actress revealed that her own parents were separated, adding that she resolved long ago that the challenges she faced in her marriage would not become a burden for her children.
According to her, preserving peace for her daughter’s special day was more important than dwelling on past differences with her ex-husband.
“I believe if you don’t want something to continue, you have to be able to break it. I made up my mind that whatever situation happened to my parents, and whatever mistakes they made or I made, my children will not repeat them,” she said.
Iyabo explained that because Priscilla’s father is alive and remains her parent, there was no reason to exclude him from such an important milestone. She stressed that the issues between her and her former husband were separate from his relationship with their daughter.
The actress added that she was willing to make personal sacrifices to ensure her daughter entered marriage with love, unity and the support of both parents, expressing hope that the next generation would enjoy stronger family relationships.
