The much-anticipated rematch between street-pop star Habeeb “Portable” Badmus and actor Charles Okocha is officially on after Okocha activated the rematch clause following their controversial first celebrity boxing contest.

Organisers confirmed that the second showdown will take place on July 31 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, promising another explosive encounter between the two entertainers.

Speaking during a press conference in Lagos, Balmoral Group Promotions CEO, Dr. Ezekiel Adamu, said the rematch was arranged after Okocha requested another opportunity to settle the rivalry.

“They fought before. Charles wants a rematch. He activated a rematch clause. So, we expected that, and we will make it happen,” Adamu said.

The event quickly turned heated as Portable reignited their rivalry with bold threats aimed at his opponent.

“You, whom I have beaten before, I will break your bones. The fight is coming,” the singer declared.

Okocha fired back, insisting the first bout did not reflect his true ability and promising a different outcome.

“I will kill you in the ring. I am fearless. We will see who the man is on the 31st of July. Everyone knows the first one was not a real fight, but this time it is the real deal. You will not survive two rounds—that is if you find a way to escape me in the first round,” he said.

The verbal exchanges soon escalated into chaos after a soda bottle was thrown, triggering a scuffle involving punches and flying chairs before security personnel intervened to restore order.

The drama extended beyond the headline fight. Street-pop artistes Mr Real and Idowest, who are also scheduled to face off in the ring, exchanged threats during the event, while WBO Africa cruiserweight champion Godday Appah and challenger Lekan “The Engine” Muibi also had to be separated by security after a tense confrontation.

Adamu unveiled the full fight card for the July 31 event, which includes Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje against South Africa’s Ayabonga Sonjika, Mr Real vs Idowest, and Adeniji vs multiple-time champion Rilwan Lawal. He added that fans unable to attend in person will be able to watch the event live on DAZN and local television channels.
