Political analyst and Director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, Sam Amadi, has stirred debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election, claiming that political actors appear more focused on challenging Peter Obi than confronting incumbent President Bola Tinubu.
Amadi made the remark in a post on X, where he described the emerging political landscape as unusual and questioned the priorities of key players positioning themselves for the next general election.
According to him, the current political discourse suggests that opposition figures and commentators are directing much of their attention toward Obi rather than scrutinizing the performance of the sitting president.
“Everyone is running against @PeterObi for the presidency, not against the incumbent president @officialABAT,” Amadi wrote.
He further described the build-up to the 2027 election as unprecedented, arguing that the political dynamics unfolding ahead of the contest appear disconnected from conventional electoral competition.
“This is the most farcical election in Nigeria’s history. And some self-proclaimed intellectuals and technocrats are fully immersed in the illogic,” he added.
Amadi’s comments come as political activities continue to gather momentum across the country, with major parties and aspirants already positioning themselves ahead of the next presidential race.
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 election under the Labour Party platform, is expected to seek the presidency again in 2027.
The race is also expected to feature incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is widely anticipated to seek a second term in office.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is also considered one of the leading contenders ahead of the election.
Amadi’s remarks have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics offering differing views on whether Obi has become the central figure in Nigeria’s evolving political conversation.
As political alignments continue to take shape, analysts believe the 2027 election could be one of the most fiercely contested in Nigeria’s democratic history.
