The political temperature in the South-West has climbed sharply ahead of the 2027 elections as former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, launched a blistering attack on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, vowing what he described as a “political lesson” in the coming elections.

Fayose made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, where he accused Makinde of weakening the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West and taking control of political networks he claims belonged to him.

According to the former governor, tensions within the party have reached a breaking point, and what is unfolding is a consequence of betrayal and political realignment within the PDP.

“We will teach Makinde a political lesson. If you respect me, you will get all my values and support, but if you disrespect me, you will get the downside of Fayose. I’m not a politician that is taken for granted,” he said.

Fayose went further to allege that Makinde had dismantled the South-West PDP structure and taken over what he described as his political base, insisting that fairness had been abandoned in internal party dealings.

“Makinde destroyed the South West Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and took my structure. When we are in politics, we are meant to be fair,” he stated.

The former governor also linked the rising tension to Makinde’s presidential ambition, arguing that the governor’s declaration for the 2027 race worsened internal trust within the party.

“Declaring for presidency was his undoing. He has the right to contest for president but we don’t betray trust. Elections are not far away again. We will get there,” Fayose added.

In a more symbolic and controversial remark, Fayose claimed Makinde had “stolen the land of the deities,” warning that the deities would eventually reclaim it—an expression widely interpreted as political metaphor rather than literal claim.

The remarks highlight growing friction within the PDP in the South-West as key figures position themselves ahead of 2027, with internal disputes increasingly shaping party dynamics.

At the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde had not issued any official response to Fayose’s comments.
