Grief filled the air in Arochukwu, Abia State, as family members, friends, colleagues, and fans gathered to bid farewell to popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who was laid to rest in his hometown.
The actor, who died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40 after a battle with kidney cancer, was buried following a series of funeral activities that attracted mourners from within and outside the entertainment industry.
Funeral rites began on Wednesday with a wake-keep ceremony held in Ujari Village, Arochukwu, where loved ones paid their respects and celebrated the life of the late actor.
The final funeral service took place on Thursday at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu. The service drew a large crowd, including family members, community leaders, colleagues from Nollywood, and close associates who came to honour his memory.
Following the service, Ekubo was laid to rest at his family compound amid emotional scenes as mourners struggled to hold back tears while saying their final goodbyes.
Several friends and colleagues paid glowing tributes to the actor, describing him as talented, kind-hearted, and dedicated to both his craft and humanitarian causes.
Over the years, Ekubo built a successful career in Nollywood, starring in numerous films and earning admiration for his performances on screen. Beyond acting, he was also known for his philanthropic efforts and support for charitable initiatives.
