The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong warning to Corps Members across the country, directing them to stay away from political campaigns, party activities, and any conduct that could compromise the scheme’s non-partisan status.
Director-General of the NYSC, Olakunle Nafiu, delivered the warning while addressing 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
Speaking to the newly deployed graduates, Brigadier General Nafiu stressed that Corps Members must not participate in rallies, campaign activities, or any event linked to political parties during their service year.
“Do not involve yourselves in the campaigns of any political party. Keep NYSC separate from politics. You must stay away from political matters,” he said.
The NYSC boss also raised concerns about the misuse of social media, cautioning Corps Members against engaging in cyberstalking, cyberbullying, online fraud, and other digital offenses that could attract legal consequences.
According to him, the increasing influence of social media comes with responsibilities, and Corps Members must be mindful of their online activities. He warned that anyone found guilty of violating cyber laws would face the appropriate sanctions.
Beyond the warnings, Nafiu encouraged Corps Members to take advantage of opportunities available during the service year to build their future. He urged them to cultivate financial discipline, develop a savings culture, and avoid actions that could derail their ambitions.
The Director-General further challenged the young graduates to use the NYSC programme as a platform for promoting national unity and integration by building friendships across ethnic, religious, and cultural divides.
He also called on Corps Members to actively participate in the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a valuable avenue for gaining practical skills and improving self-reliance after service.
Highlighting the newly launched NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitization Programme in Lagos, Nafiu said the initiative was designed to improve financial literacy among Corps Members and expose them to investment opportunities within Nigeria’s capital market.
“This program is designed to empower you with financial literacy and investment capabilities. It will also enable Corps Members to make well-informed financial choices,” he added.
