The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate operations linked to the alleged killing of a resident and an armed robbery attack involving a commercial motorcyclist in Bauchi and Ningi Local Government Areas.
Police authorities said three of the suspects were apprehended in connection with a homicide case in Miri Village, while two others were arrested over the violent robbery of a motorcycle rider in Ningi.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspects linked to the alleged murder were identified as Rabiyu Sanda, 16, Muhammad Abubakar, 21, and Suleiman Nura, 21, all residents of Miri Village in Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to the command, operatives attached to the ‘B’ Division, GRA, arrested the trio on June 13 following investigations into an incident that occurred two days earlier.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects allegedly conspired to attack the victim after a disagreement reportedly escalated into violence. Police said the suspects later confessed during interrogation and provided information that assisted investigators in piecing together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation before prosecution.
In a separate operation, detectives from the Ningi Division arrested two suspects over an alleged armed robbery attack on a 22-year-old commercial motorcyclist.
The case was reported to police by the victim’s father on June 14 after the rider was reportedly attacked in Ningi Town on the night of June 13 by individuals who attempted to steal his motorcycle.
Investigations led to the arrest of Adamu Abdullahi from Zazika Village in Ningi Local Government Area and Aminu Shuaibu of Dutsen Danga Village in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Police alleged that the suspects attacked the motorcyclist with a hammer, causing injuries to his face before fleeing with the motorcycle. However, a swift response by operatives led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of the suspects.
The robbery case has also been transferred to the SCID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed investigators to handle both cases diligently and ensure justice is served. He also urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Bauchi State through proactive policing and swift response to criminal activities.
