Tears, prayers, and heartfelt tributes filled The Monarch Event Centre as Nollywood stars gathered to celebrate the life of late actor Alex Ekubo, with actress Nkechi Blessing delivering one of the most emotional messages in his honour.

In a touching Instagram post shared on Thursday, Nkechi described the late actor as more than a friend, calling him a brother, confidant, and a source of strength whose presence brought joy and comfort to those around him.

Struggling to come to terms with his passing, the actress said Ekubo possessed a rare ability to light up every room he entered. According to her, his warmth, kindness, and infectious smile made people feel valued and appreciated.

“My heart is heavy as I struggle to find the right words for a man whose presence could never be described by words alone,” she wrote.

Reflecting on their friendship, Nkechi said the late actor was the type of person who always showed up for others, offering support, laughter, and encouragement whenever it was needed. She added that his impact on people’s lives went far beyond the screen.

“Some people pass through our lives and leave footprints; you left a permanent mark on our hearts,” she said, noting that the pain of losing him was a reflection of how deeply he was loved.

The actress expressed gratitude for the memories they shared and said Ekubo’s legacy of friendship, compassion, and generosity would continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

The emotional tribute came as family, friends, and colleagues gathered for a service of songs held in his honour. Guests were dressed in white, in line with the wishes of the Ekubo family, creating an atmosphere of reflection and celebration of a life remembered.

Among the notable personalities in attendance were Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, Frederick Leonard, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, singer Chike, and Cubana Chief Priest.

The event also featured worship sessions led by gospel ministers Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs, while Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings ministered during the programme.

Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, following a battle with kidney cancer. His burial activities are scheduled to continue with a wake-keep in Abia State on June 17, while his funeral will take place on June 18.

As tributes continue to pour in from fans and colleagues, many have remembered the actor not only for his successful career in Nollywood but also for the kindness, humour, and friendship he shared with those around him.
