Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced the donation of vehicles to women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in five states currently governed by opposition parties.
The beneficiaries are the APC women leaders in Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Oyo states. Oluremi Tinubu made the announcement on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a pro-President Bola Tinubu support group, at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
Addressing party members and supporters, the First Lady said the vehicles would be delivered before the end of the week and would belong directly to the recipients rather than the APC as an organisation.
“To all our women leaders in states where we do not have APC governors but have committed party members, your vehicles will be ready before the end of the week,” she said.
She further clarified that the vehicles should be registered in the names of the beneficiaries and used to support party activities as well as community development efforts.
“The vehicles are your personal vehicles. You are not giving them to the party. Register them in your names and use them for the service of the party and your communities,” Oluremi added.
The First Lady also encouraged APC governors across the country to provide similar support for women leaders within their states. She stressed that empowering women remains a key part of the party’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that women continue to play a vital role in grassroots mobilisation and party growth.
Speaking on the APC’s internal processes, Oluremi described the ruling party as an example of democratic participation, saying political engagement can be conducted peacefully and without hostility. She pointed to the party’s recent primaries as evidence of its commitment to internal democracy and conflict resolution.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, she urged members of the Tinubu Torchbearers to actively promote the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and communicate government policies responsibly to citizens.
Also speaking at the event, APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile-Idele, called on women nationwide to strengthen grassroots mobilisation efforts in support of President Tinubu’s programmes. She revealed that the Tinubu Torchbearers had established structures across all 774 local government areas of Nigeria to drive awareness of government initiatives and encourage citizen participation.
Alile-Idele praised the administration’s reforms and the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative, saying the programmes have positively impacted women, youths, persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through various empowerment and social intervention schemes.
