Africa’s entertainment industry came alive in Lagos as top actors, filmmakers and digital creators gathered for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), celebrating excellence in African film, television and online content.

The glamorous ceremony drew some of the continent’s biggest stars, with standout productions and performances taking centre stage in a night filled with emotional speeches, fashion moments and major career milestones.

One of the biggest winners of the evening was My Father’s Shadow, which emerged as a dominant force at the awards after securing major categories including Best Movie, Best Director and Best Writing in a Movie. The film’s strong showing reinforced its growing reputation as one of the most acclaimed African productions of the year.

Other productions also enjoyed memorable nights. Colours of Fire, To Kill a Monkey and Lisabi (A Legend Is Born) recorded multiple wins across technical and acting categories, highlighting the increasing quality and diversity of storytelling across the African entertainment industry.

Several winners used the moment to thank fans, colleagues and organisers for supporting African cinema. Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo described his recognition as a reward for years of commitment and consistency in the industry, while stars including Linda Ejiofor, Uzor Arukwe and Uche Montana expressed gratitude for the honour.

The AMVCA ceremony once again showcased the rapid global rise of African storytelling, with filmmakers and creators pushing local productions onto the international stage through cinema, streaming platforms and digital media.

Linda Ejiofor emerged as one of the standout performers of the night, winning Best Supporting Actress for The Herd and Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift. Uzor Arukwe also earned major recognition after claiming Best Lead Actor for his role in Colours of Fire.

The event also celebrated industry veterans and rising stars. Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award, while legendary actress Sola Sobowale was honoured with the Industry Merit Award. Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo received the Industry Recognition Award for his lasting contribution to African entertainment.

Among other winners announced during the night were Valerie Okeke for Best Costume Design (Colours of Fire), Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra for Best Sound Design (My Father’s Shadow), and Emmanuel Kanaga alongside Sophia Chisom, who won Best Digital Content Creator for Leave To Live.
