A major breakthrough in Anambra’s fight against cult-related violence has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect who allegedly operated as an executioner for a notorious cult group.
Police identified the suspect as Favour Izunna, also known as “Njoku,” who was apprehended in Obosi by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit in Enugwu Ukwu.
Authorities say the suspect has confessed to multiple violent crimes, including killings and kidnapping operations that targeted residents within Obosi and surrounding communities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state.
During interrogation, Izunna reportedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity, where he allegedly served as an executioner responsible for carrying out attacks on behalf of the group.
Police said the suspect confessed to involvement in the deaths of several individuals, though he was able to clearly identify three victims during questioning.
Investigators also revealed that the suspect provided information about alleged sponsors who contracted him to carry out attacks, pointing to a broader criminal network behind the operations.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified operations to track down other members of the group and those believed to be financing their activities.
With support from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, officers recovered a cache of weapons linked to the suspect, including a pump-action gun, live cartridges, a locally made pistol, and ammunition.
Beyond the killings, police said the suspect also admitted to participating in multiple kidnapping operations, involving victims across different parts of Anambra State.
The command says investigations are ongoing, with security agencies working to expand the crackdown on cult-related violence and restore safety in affected communities.
