Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his exit was driven by what he described as a need to reposition the state rather than personal grievance.

Madumere announced his move during an unveiling ceremony at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Owerri, where he was received by party stakeholders.

He said his decision to leave the APC was influenced by what he called persistent marginalisation and lack of reward for loyalty within the party structure.

According to him, the APC had drifted away from its founding principles, making it difficult for committed members to achieve meaningful political or developmental goals.

Madumere said his return to the PDP was motivated by conviction that the party remains a more credible platform for rebuilding governance and restoring public confidence.

“My decision to formally join the PDP is guided by genuine conviction that this party remains the most credible platform for rebuilding the state,” he said.

The former deputy governor stressed that his political journey has always been driven by a desire for good governance, loyalty, and societal progress.

Madumere also described his defection as a renewed commitment to public service, insisting that he was not joining the PDP as an outsider but as a partner ready to contribute to party unity and grassroots mobilisation.

He pledged to support policies aimed at youth empowerment, job creation, infrastructure development, and improved social welfare across the state.

Madumere further promised to help strengthen internal democracy within the PDP and attract wider support, particularly from young people.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership of the PDP at both national and state levels for welcoming him and his supporters.
