The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has assured party members that its upcoming primaries will be conducted on a level playing field. Chief Austin Onyedebelu, the State Chairman, gave the assurance during a visit by aspirants to the party secretariat on Okigwe Road, Owerri.
Among those who met with Onyedebelu were former lawmaker and governorship aspirant Chief Ike C. Ibe, and Chief Longers Anyanwu, who has formally declared his intention to contest the Okigwe Senatorial seat. The chairman described their participation as a boost to the democratic process and a sign of growing confidence in the party.
“As the State Chairman of our great party, I am always encouraged when men of experience and commitment step forward to deepen our democratic process,” Onyedebelu said. “Today, we warmly received Chief Longers Anyanwu at our State Secretariat. His decision to contest for the Okigwe Senatorial seat demonstrates faith in the APC and in the progress we are building together.”
He added that under his leadership, and with the backing of the State Working Committee, all aspirants would enjoy fairness and transparency. “Our primaries will be conducted in a manner that is fair, transparent, and credible. This is essential to sustain members’ confidence and strengthen our party,” he noted.
Onyedebelu also welcomed Chief Ike C. Ibe into the APC family, describing him as a former lawmaker and governorship hopeful whose experience adds value to the party. “His entry reinforces the growing strength and appeal of APC across the state,” he said.
While encouraging healthy political ambition, the chairman emphasized the importance of party unity. Aspirants are expected to respect established structures and align with the party constitution and leadership. “The APC in Imo remains one united family, focused on progress, development, and victory in the coming elections,” Onyedebelu concluded.
