A quiet morning at a nursery school in Uganda’s capital turned into a scene of unimaginable horror after four young children were stabbed to death in a brutal attack that has shaken the nation.

The victims—three boys and a girl aged between two and three years—were killed inside a school in the Ggaba area of Kampala. Police say the attacker used multiple knives in what they described as a “heinous” act.

Authorities have arrested a 39-year-old suspect, who is now in custody as investigators work to determine his motive and background. Officials say he had earlier visited the school under the pretext of enrolling a child.

According to police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the man returned after completing an admission payment and then carried out the attack before 11:00 local time, catching staff and children off guard.

The violence sparked immediate outrage. Parents and residents rushed to the school, with some attempting to lynch the suspect before police intervened and took him into custody.

Ten other children who were present at the time were safely handed back to their parents, but the emotional toll on families and the wider community has been severe.

Videos circulating online show chaotic scenes outside the school, with distressed parents desperately seeking information about their children as security forces cordoned off the area.

Police chief Abas Byakagaba has since visited the scene, urging calm while investigations continue. Authorities say more details will be released as inquiries progress.

Beyond the immediate tragedy, the attack has triggered deeper concerns about safety in early childhood education centres across Uganda.

For many parents, the question now isn’t just what happened—but how something this horrific could happen in a place meant to be safe.
