The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has renamed a road previously named after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following ongoing tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party.
The 8.3-kilometre Phase II Idi-Ape/Akobo-Olorunda Abaa road in Ibadan was originally named after Wike in June 2023, during a period when both politicians were on cordial terms.
However, reports indicate that the Oyo governor has now withdrawn the honour and renamed the road after Ayo Ladigbolu.
The development comes amid a deepening rift between Makinde and Wike over the leadership structure of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Both politicians have found themselves on opposing sides of the internal party dispute, with Wike leading one faction while Makinde and other allies back a rival group. The factional struggle has contributed to ongoing divisions within the party.
The dispute has also played out in court, with one of the factions reportedly emerging victorious in a recent Court of Appeal judgment, further intensifying the political tension.
The renaming of the road highlights the continuing political realignment and strained relationships within the PDP as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
