A former senator who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District, Abubakar Umar Gada, has reassured members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the party remains united and politically strong in Sokoto State despite recent defections by some political figures.

Gada made the remarks in a statement issued on Thursday in Sokoto, urging party loyalists and supporters not to be discouraged by the developments. He called on members to remain calm, committed and focused on strengthening the party’s structure across the state.

According to the former lawmaker, political defections are not unusual in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape and should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness within the PDP. He insisted that the party’s deep-rooted grassroots presence across Sokoto State remains intact.

Gada said the PDP continues to be one of Nigeria’s most organised political parties, with strong structures spanning the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

He explained that the resilience of the party over the years has been driven by the loyalty and dedication of its members, leaders and supporters who have stood by the party through different political cycles.

The PDP stalwart added that while politics allows individuals to make personal choices about their affiliations, the party as an institution remains firmly anchored in the aspirations of the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

Gada further revealed that the party’s national leadership had begun consultations and reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and consolidating party structures across the country.

“These consultations are designed to ensure that the PDP moves forward with renewed focus, stronger unity and a clear commitment to democratic values,” he said.

Reflecting on the party’s history, Gada noted that the PDP had weathered several political storms in the past and had often emerged stronger from such challenges.

He therefore urged members across Sokoto State to avoid actions capable of creating internal divisions and instead intensify grassroots mobilisation while strengthening the party’s structures at every level.

Reaffirming his loyalty, the former senator pledged his continued commitment to the PDP and encouraged supporters to remain resolute as the party prepares for future political contests.
