Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has declared he will not endorse any aspirant ahead of the 2027 party primaries, pledging to stay neutral as the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to select its candidates for elective positions.
Speaking on Tuesday during a Ramadan fast-breaking event with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Sani urged aspirants to seek genuine support from party members rather than rely on political godfathers.
“My advice to every aspirant who is seeking any office is to get the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates in the coming primaries that will take place between April and May this year. I will abide by what the people decide,” he said.
‘No Interference’ in APC Selection Process
The governor emphasised that the credibility and transparency of the primaries would be crucial to maintaining party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I will not interfere with the primaries or the selection process. Whoever emerges as the choice of the people will have my full support,” he added.
However, Sani made it clear that his only preferred candidate remains President Bola Tinubu, whom he pledged to back for re-election in 2027.
Warning Against Post-Primary Defections
Calling for unity within the APC, Sani advised aspirants who may lose in the primaries not to undermine the party.
Recounting his own political experience, he revealed that he was once sidelined during an APC congress under a previous administration, with many of his supporters blocked from securing party positions.
“At that time, some people wanted me to work against the party. I told them I would not work against the house that I helped to build. As God would have it, I am the governor today,” he recalled.
The governor warned that opposition parties could exploit internal grievances following the primaries in a bid to weaken the APC.
“The opposition will try to instigate some members, especially after the primaries, because our party is the only party that is still standing. We should resist this temptation. The party belongs to all of us,” he said.
Security and Infrastructure Record
Sani also alleged that opposition parties may campaign against the APC by highlighting Nigeria’s security challenges in 2027. He insisted that security conditions in Kaduna State have improved since he assumed office in 2023.
According to him, his administration has reopened 535 schools and 85 health facilities that were previously shut due to insecurity. He further disclosed that construction is ongoing on the 35-kilometre Bagoma–Gagumi Road linking 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, while a contract has been awarded for the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road project.
With the 2027 political race gradually taking shape, Sani’s declaration signals an attempt to position the Kaduna APC as united — at least on paper — ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested election cycle.
