APC National Secretary credits Nyesom Wike’s ‘sterling performance’ for party’s success in FCT local government polls

National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, works for the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu, despite not being a registered member of the ruling party.

Basiru made the remarks during an appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, where he linked the wave of infrastructure development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the APC’s recent victory in the FCT local government elections.

‘Massive Infrastructure in Urban and Suburban FCT’

The APC chieftain pointed to what he described as “massive infrastructural development” across both city centres and suburban communities in Abuja over the past two and a half years.

According to him, the visible transformation under Wike’s leadership played a decisive role in swaying voters.

“When you see the massive infrastructural development that has occurred in the FCT, not only in the urban areas, but even in the suburbs, in the past two and half years, you’ll discover that the sterling performance of the FCT Minister… contributed to APC’s victory in the FCT local government elections,” Basiru said.

APC Strategy and Candidate Selection Key

Basiru also credited the party’s internal strategy, including what he described as careful selection of candidates with strong political track records across different platforms, as instrumental to the electoral outcome.

He maintained that governance performance and political success are closely intertwined.

“So you can’t discountenance effective administrative deployment of the dividends of democracy in the FCT under the present FCT administration from the success of our party in that election,” he added.

‘Not APC Member, But Serving APC Government’

Addressing questions about Wike’s political affiliation, Basiru clarified that the former Rivers State governor remains outside the APC fold but serves under an APC administration.

“Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu,” he stated.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and debates over cross-party appointments within the Tinubu administration, particularly as the ruling party consolidates its influence in key territories, including the FCT.
