Brooklyn, New York – Nigerian fashion designer Sheriff Shittu, 30, was fatally shot in the early hours of February 14 at Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, after an altercation with an intoxicated patron escalated.
Shooting Sparks Shock and Mourning
According to preliminary reports, the suspect was being escorted out by security after causing a disturbance inside the club. While being led out, the individual allegedly brandished a firearm and opened fire, killing Shittu and leaving witnesses in shock.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect had been behaving disorderly and reportedly made inappropriate advances toward female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which led to the confrontation.
Shittu had visited the nightclub with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Fawaz described the moment as devastating, recalling his frantic attempts to get his brother to respond after he was shot.
Another family member, Salem Shittu, questioned the club’s security protocols, raising concerns about how a firearm passed through the venue’s entrance screening.
Suspect at Large; Investigation Ongoing
Law enforcement confirmed that the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Sheriff Shittu was rushed to One Brooklyn Health, Brookdale University Hospital Medical Centre, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
