Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared his keen interest in developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, citing his commitment to the party’s survival and continued relevance.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee meeting, Wike said his focus on Oyo State is driven by a desire to see the party thrive.

“Let me declare my interest clearly: I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in all the happenings in Oyo State PDP. That is all I am interested in,” he said.

Addressing claims that some PDP members had faced intimidation, Wike dismissed the allegations, citing recent judicial outcomes that affirmed the authority of the Caretaker Committee. “Who will intimidate us to the end? Some of us, by the grace of God, do not see what anyone can threaten us with. The legal battle has collapsed. They have no option but to recognise the Caretaker Committee,” he added.

Wike’s comments come amid ongoing tensions between him and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The former allies now lead different factions within the party, following a controversial national convention conducted last November by Makinde and the Governor Bala Mohammed-led faction, which was later annulled by the Federal High Court in Oyo State.

The PDP’s internal disputes in Oyo State highlight the challenges the party faces in maintaining cohesion at both state and national levels. Wike’s engagement signals a commitment to stabilising the party and ensuring its survival ahead of future electoral contests.
