Police in Taraba State have arrested two men in connection with the killing of a Fulani herder in Karim Lamido Local Government Area. The victim, 20-year-old Musa Tukur, reportedly died after a violent confrontation over damaged crops.
The incident occurred on February 2, 2026, at around 11:00 a.m. in Garin Kula. Reports indicate that Tukur’s cattle had strayed into an irrigation farm belonging to Abba Gwomu of Gwomu Village, destroying seedlings and triggering an argument with the farm owner and his associate.
The two suspects, Ibrahim Abubakar, 28, from Guyuk LGA in Adamawa State, and Gideon Joshua, 25, from Gwomu Village, allegedly attacked Tukur with a machete, causing severe head injuries. The herder was rushed to Jen Primary Health Care Hospital but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Security operatives recovered a machete, a spear, and a stick at the scene. The suspects are now in police custody, and the case is being transferred to the Taraba State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Authorities have called on residents to remain calm and allow security agencies to carry out thorough investigations, warning against taking the law into their own hands.
The case highlights ongoing tensions between herders and farmers in the region, where disputes over land and livestock frequently escalate into violence.
