The Kano State Government has assured residents that the longstanding Emirate dispute will soon be resolved through dialogue and collaborative efforts with all stakeholders.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, made the announcement on Thursday while addressing journalists in Kano. He stated that the administration has put in place concrete measures to restore lasting peace and stability across the state.

“The government is committed to engaging all stakeholders, ensuring that the emirate matter does not continue to generate tension or disrupt governance,” Waiya said. He added that the approach would be guided by respect for the rule of law, traditional institutions, and the collective interests of Kano residents.

On the recent defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the commissioner described the move as a positive development for the state. He said closer alignment with the Federal Government would facilitate greater interventions, projects, and development initiatives across key sectors including infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare.

“The defection opens more doors for Kano. With stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, we expect more support in critical sectors,” Waiya said.

Regarding Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who did not defect alongside the governor, Waiya emphasised that the decision remained personal. He noted that it would be up to the deputy governor to determine whether to continue working within the new political arrangement or take a different path.

Waiya reassured residents that the Kano State Government remains focused on unity, governance, and development. He urged citizens to remain calm and supportive as the administration continues efforts to resolve outstanding issues and move the state forward.

“The administration is committed to transparency, peace, and inclusive governance. The interests of the people of Kano will always remain paramount,” he added.
