A record 95 princes and princesses from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have formally expressed interest in ascending the prestigious stool of Awujale of Ijebuland, officials announced on Monday.
The disclosure came during a nomination meeting at Bisi Rodipe Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode, led by Olori Ebi of the ruling house, Lateef Owoyemi, also known as Otunba Jadiara. Key leaders including Deputy Olori Ebi Otunba Ajidagba and Chairman Chief Fassy Yusuf were in attendance.
Owoyemi explained that candidates who successfully clear the first stage of the selection process would have their names forwarded to the Afobajes, the kingmakers, who would ultimately select a candidate for the Awujale throne. The chosen name will then be submitted to the Ogun State Government for official endorsement.
“Those who have concerns or disagreements with the process are encouraged to channel their grievances to the government,” Owoyemi said, emphasising transparency in the selection procedure.
The large number of aspirants highlights the historical significance and influence of the Awujale stool in Ijebuland, which has long been a center of political, cultural, and social leadership in Ogun State.
The final selection is expected to attract widespread attention across the region, as communities await the emergence of the next custodian of Ijebuland’s traditions and heritage.
