Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has drawn criticism after asking a couple to leave his concert in Denver, United States, for allegedly falling asleep during his performance. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, disrupting the singer’s set and igniting debate among fans online.

Eyewitnesses reported that Burna Boy paused his performance mid-song after noticing the couple near the front of the stage. The singer allegedly addressed the male fan directly, instructing him to escort his girlfriend out.

“When I stand up here [on the stage] and see you over there with your girl sleeping in the front of me, it pisses me the fk up. So, please, take her the fk home… Walahi I’m not performing another song till you go home,” Burna Boy reportedly said, according to footage from the concert.

The couple initially resisted leaving, but the audience’s reaction, combined with the singer’s insistence, led them to exit the venue. Burna Boy then resumed his performance, much to the relief of the remaining crowd.

This is not the first time Burna Boy has removed fans from his shows for behaviour he deems inappropriate. He previously asked a male fan to leave for storming the stage and hugging him and once requested another attendee exit for not dancing during his set.

Reactions to the Denver incident have been mixed. Some fans defended the singer’s right to maintain energy and engagement at his concerts, while others criticised him for harshly ejecting ticket holders for what they consider trivial reasons.

The episode has reignited discussions about concert etiquette and the balance between performer expectations and audience freedoms, especially for high-profile acts like Burna Boy with global fanbases.
