Cristiano Ronaldo may be gearing up for a move to the United States, with former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen tipping Los Angeles as the Portuguese star’s next football destination.

Speaking to Compare Bet, Meulensteen said the Al-Nassr forward could join a Major League Soccer (MLS) side based in Los Angeles, where he would likely reignite his iconic rivalry with Lionel Messi, who currently captains Inter Miami.

“Can you imagine having Messi and Ronaldo playing in the same league in America? It would be a spectacle,” Meulensteen said. “On the contrary, it would be amazing to reignite the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry. Why not Los Angeles?

“I think Cristiano would probably move to Los Angeles because he would be so close to Hollywood. That’s probably his next destination.”

Ronaldo, 40, has previously expressed admiration for the U.S. lifestyle and the growth of MLS, fuelling speculation that he could follow other global icons who ended their careers in the American league.

Such a move would not only bring him closer to Hollywood’s glitz and glamour but also create one of football’s most marketable rivalries in a new setting — Ronaldo vs Messi: The American Chapter.

As of now, Ronaldo remains under contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he continues to deliver top performances in the Saudi Pro League.
