Nollywood star Regina Daniels has opened up about the struggles she faced during her marriage to billionaire politician, Senator Ned Nwoko, revealing that her mother, Rita Daniels, tried to shield her for seven years.

The actress made the revelation in an emotional video shared on her official Instagram page on Wednesday, addressing widespread speculations surrounding her troubled marriage. Daniels, who recently accused her estranged husband of domestic violence, said her family had initially opposed the marriage but she went ahead because she was “in love.”

According to her, contrary to public perception that her mother pushed her into the marriage for financial gain, her family had strongly warned her against it. She described herself as having a “coconut head,” admitting that she stubbornly ignored her family’s advice.

“For seven years, my mum held me down. She tried, but I’m the one that has a coconut head,” Daniels confessed. “I’m ashamed to say I fell in love, but I actually did, and it’s crazy. Everyone said no. You all should stop saying I married out of greed — we were not broke.”

The actress dismissed claims that her marriage was driven by money, questioning what amount of wealth could make a mother give up her child who was already supporting the family. “What amount of money can a man give to a mother to get her child that is practically providing everything in the house?” she asked.

Regina further revealed that she once contemplated suicide when her family refused to support her decision to marry Nwoko. “My mother, my brother, and everybody warned me. I drove out at night one day, trying to kill myself if I didn’t marry Ned,” she recounted.

The actress concluded by pleading with Nigerians to stop insulting her mother, saying Rita Daniels had suffered enough and deserved empathy rather than blame for her daughter’s choices.
