Flames tore through the Lagos office of Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Iyabo Ojo late Tuesday evening, July 8, 2025, sending shockwaves across Nigeria’s entertainment scene. The fire reportedly started around 7:00 PM, shortly after staff had locked up for the day, raising concerns about potential sabotage or electrical failure.
The actress confirmed the incident via her Instagram page where she posted a video showing smoke billowing from the property, charred interiors, and firefighters battling the blaze. She praised the swift response of the Nigerian Fire Service and credited her staff for helping to contain the damage. “The devil tested us but God said no,” she wrote, adding, “We will bounce back, bigger and better.”
Eyewitnesses said the fire appeared to originate from the rear section of the building, which housed storage and business equipment related to her fashion and lifestyle ventures. While the exact cause remains under investigation, early suspicions point to an electrical surge triggered by heavy rains earlier that day.
Sources close to the actress revealed that her team had just concluded a strategy meeting ahead of a planned expansion into beauty product manufacturing. The blaze may have damaged critical documents and inventory meant for the launch, though no casualties were reported.
This traumatic event comes barely two months after her daughter, Priscilla Ojo, tied the knot with Tanzanian pop star Juma Jux in a star-studded ceremony held in Dar es Salaam. The wedding had seen a flood of social media praise for Iyabo’s resilience and style, with many describing her as one of Nigeria’s strongest celebrity mothers.
Fans, fellow celebrities, and industry colleagues have since flooded her social media with messages of support, solidarity, and offers to help. Top personalities including Toyin Abraham, Toke Makinwa, and Funke Akindele commented under the post, praising her strength and wishing her a speedy recovery.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has sealed off the affected premises pending a formal safety inspection. Meanwhile, Iyabo Ojo remains undeterred, stating that her comeback will be “a testimony the devil won’t recover from.”
