A young girl’s terrified screams have led to the dramatic arrest of a well-known Enugu native doctor and his alleged accomplices in what authorities are describing as a foiled ritual attack. The incident, which occurred in the outskirts of Enugu on Sunday, May 26, 2025, has since sparked widespread shock, with residents praising the girl’s courage for sounding the alarm that ultimately saved her life.

According to eyewitness accounts, the girl was lured into a secluded compound under false pretenses by individuals believed to be connected to the native doctor. Upon sensing danger, she screamed repeatedly, triggering a swift response from local vigilante operatives stationed nearby. Their timely intervention not only saved the girl but also led to the capture of the suspected ritualist and his cohorts.

The suspects, including the native doctor whose name is being withheld pending formal charges, were found in possession of disturbing ritual paraphernalia, including blood-stained materials, charms, and what appeared to be a shallow grave. Vigilantes handed them over to police officers from the Enugu State Command, who have since launched a full investigation into the matter.

Sources within the community confirmed that the suspect is notorious for disguising diabolic practices under the guise of herbal medicine and spiritual healing. Multiple reports have now surfaced from residents who previously suspected his involvement in suspicious activities but lacked evidence to take action.

The rescued girl, whose identity remains protected for security reasons, is currently receiving medical care and trauma counseling through the Enugu State Ministry of Women Affairs. Officials have assured the public that she is safe and cooperating with investigators.

Human rights groups have commended the vigilance of the community and stressed the need for swift justice. “This young girl’s scream may have saved others too,” said Nkechi Ijeoma, a child protection advocate. “We urge authorities to prosecute this case to the full extent of the law and dismantle any networks behind it.”

As the story trends online under hashtags like #EnuguRitualFoiled, #JusticeForTheGirl, and #ProtectOurChildren, Nigerians are calling on law enforcement and state leaders to crack down on ritual-related crimes and safeguard vulnerable citizens from exploitation masked as tradition.
