Trump Warns Iran of ‘Very Hard’ Response If Linked to Flydubai Attack

US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran would face a severe response if investigators establish that Tehran was linked to an alleged attempt to bring down a Flydubai passenger plane travelling from Dubai to Israel. Trump made the statement as investigations into the incident continued.

The incident occurred on Wednesday aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was carrying passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Authorities said the Omani co-pilot allegedly attacked and stabbed the Indian captain, triggering a struggle for control of the aircraft.

Passengers and crew intervened as the aircraft descended sharply, helping to overpower the co-pilot. The plane subsequently made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where the passengers were later transferred to another flight to Israel.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump said he believed Iran could be involved but acknowledged that investigators were still working to establish what happened. He warned that Iran would be “hit very hard” if a connection was confirmed. Trump did not provide evidence publicly linking Tehran to the incident.

The United Arab Emirates has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether there was any terrorist activity or intent. Saudi authorities also questioned the co-pilot after he was transferred to the UAE with an Emirati security team.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the co-pilot had undergone what he described as “Islamist radical indoctrination”. However, Netanyahu also said it was too early to determine whether the suspect had any connection to Iran or another organisation.

The incident has heightened tensions in a region already facing increased military activity. Reports said the United States has deployed additional missile-defence capabilities to the Middle East, while the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group is also heading toward the region.

Indian captain Smit Machchhar has been praised for his actions during the emergency. Despite being wounded, he reportedly managed to open the cockpit door, allowing passengers and other crew members to intervene. Two off-duty pilots aboard the aircraft subsequently helped land the plane safely in Saudi Arabia.

The motive behind the attack and any possible connection to Iran remain under investigation. Israeli, Emirati and Saudi authorities are examining the incident, while the US warning has added another layer of tension to the developing case.
