Lord of Ajasa Becomes US Citizen, Celebrates New Milestone

Veteran Nigerian indigenous rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has become a citizen of the United States of America.
The rapper shared the news on Wednesday through videos, photographs and Instagram stories showing him with his American citizenship certificate. The announcement prompted congratulatory messages from colleagues and fans.
Music producer and Coded Tunes founder, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, congratulated the rapper, while singer Abolore Akande, known as 9ice, also celebrated the development.
Lord of Ajasa responded to both musicians, thanking them for their congratulatory messages as fans joined the celebration in the comment section of his social media page.
The veteran artiste, who is from Akure, Ondo State, earned the nickname “Lord of Flavour” during his polytechnic days in the state. The name was linked to the Yoruba meaning of “Ajasa,” while he studied Quantity Surveying.
Lord of Ajasa built his music career primarily around Yoruba-language rap. His song “Ma Yi Lo”, released in 2000, helped bring him wider recognition, and he later collaborated with artistes including 9ice, Olamide and the late Dagrin.
The rapper later stepped away from the music industry after experiencing a health challenge diagnosed as peptic ulcer. He also said he became involved in other businesses that required time to stabilise.
His acquisition of US citizenship has also renewed conversations about his contribution to the development of indigenous Nigerian hip-hop, particularly Yoruba rap, before the emergence of later stars such as Dagrin, Olamide and Reminisce.
