Court Remands Adeniyi Adeyemi in Kuje Over Alleged Forgery, Impersonation

The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), in the Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge.
Adeyemi, 38, was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Umar on Wednesday following the takeover of the case by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN). Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, represented the Federal Government. Punch Newspapers
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was originally filed by the Nigeria Police Force against Adeyemi and two other suspects identified as Femi and Anu, who are still at large. The charges relate to alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. TheCable
After the charges were read, Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all eight counts. Oyedepo told the court that the Ministry of Justice had taken over the prosecution from the police and that the case file would be reviewed, but asked the court to proceed with the existing charge.
The prosecution subsequently asked the court to remand Adeyemi, while his lawyer, Genesis Francis, urged Justice Umar to consider his client’s bail application. Francis also told the court that Adeyemi had a medical appointment scheduled for Friday for an ailment he described as contagious. The prosecution opposed his immediate release, saying he could receive medical attention while in custody. Punch Newspapers
Justice Umar declined to hear the bail application on Wednesday, citing the number of matters listed for hearing. The judge consequently ordered Adeyemi’s remand in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 12, 2026, for the bail application and continuation of the substantive trial. The allegations against Adeyemi include forging a presidential appointment letter purportedly signed by Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, presidential letterhead documents, requests for office accommodation and collaboration with government authorities. Another count accuses him of falsely presenting himself as Director-General of the purported PFIPC. TheCable
The case followed a controversy over the purported council, which the Presidency has said was not an established government agency. Adeyemi was previously arrested after failing to appear for arraignment, following a bench warrant issued by Justice Umar. He has denied the allegations and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court. Channels Television
