Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and his Kwara State counterpart, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, of working against him despite the political support he said he had previously extended to both governors.
Wike made the allegations during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he spoke about his relationships with the two governors and ongoing political disagreements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The FCT minister specifically accused Abdulrazaq of championing a campaign against him, saying he had confronted the Kwara governor over the issue. Wike said he was prepared to speak openly about the matter because, in his words, he does not discuss issues he cannot defend.
“Take for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” Wike said.
According to the minister, Abdulrazaq had accused him of sponsoring political candidates against the governor’s preferred choices in Kwara State. Wike, however, argued that the governor should appreciate his role in providing a political platform for aggrieved All Progressives Congress figures who left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party instead of joining the opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu.
Wike also recalled his strained relationship with Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma, saying the governor was aware of the political support he had provided to him in the past. “Governor Hope, he knows the support I give to him,” the minister said.
Despite the disagreements, Wike insisted that his political focus remains on securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He said personal disputes with individual governors would not distract him from pursuing that objective.
The former Rivers State governor also challenged those accusing him of working against APC governors to identify the support they had provided during his own political battles. He maintained that he has never hidden his political intentions and would continue to make his positions known publicly.
“Any Nigerian who knows me know that I have never hidden my intention,” Wike said, reinforcing his position that his political decisions and alliances should not be mistaken for hidden motives.
