Okpebholo Says UK Petrol Costs Over ₦3,000 Per Litre, Claims Nigeria Is Doing Well

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said petrol costs more than ₦3,000 per litre in the United Kingdom, arguing that Nigeria is doing well under President Bola Tinubu despite concerns over fuel prices.

Okpebholo made the remarks in a viral video circulated on X on Friday, expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and describing Nigeria as being in safe hands.

According to the governor, he visited London the previous week and compared petrol prices in the UK with those in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is in a safe hand. When we complained about the cost of petrol, I was in London last week,” he said.

He added that he had gone with friends to purchase fuel to compare prices between the two countries, claiming that the UK price amounted to more than ₦3,000 per litre after conversion.

“After conversion, it’s about N3,000 something to one litre of fuel. We are doing very well here,” Okpebholo said.

As of September 24, the average petrol price in the UK was reported at approximately £1.74 per litre, equivalent to more than ₦3,000 at the prevailing exchange rate.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s latest pump-price list put petrol at ₦1,385 per litre in Lagos and ₦1,430 in Abuja, although prices vary across locations.

The governor also described Tinubu as an economist who was taking measures to stabilise the economy.

“Our president is not a supermarket man,” he said, adding that supermarket operators would have to wait until a time when technocrats were no longer leading the country.
