Nigerian Tech Recruiter Arrested in Canada Over Alleged Human Trafficking, Sex-Related Offences

A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, has been arrested and charged with alleged human trafficking and sex-related offences, according to the Hamilton Police Service.

Tomiwa, 33, also known by the nickname “Boon,” was arrested after voluntarily surrendering to police hours after authorities declared him wanted.

In a statement, Hamilton Police confirmed his arrest, saying he would appear in court for a bail hearing.

Police disclosed that Tomiwa faces multiple charges, including trafficking in persons, procuring for sexual services, material benefit from trafficking in persons, and withholding documents.

Tomiwa reportedly identifies himself as a technology recruiter with TEKsystems on his LinkedIn profile. Police listed his place of residence as Belleville, Ontario.

The police said investigators believe there may be additional victims and urged anyone with relevant information or who believes they may have been victimised to contact investigators.

Tomiwa is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing as investigations into the allegations continue. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
