Lecturers at Imo State University (IMSU) have urged students to direct their concerns to the relevant authorities as the ongoing industrial dispute continues to disrupt academic activities.
Speaking on the crisis, Oguji told students that lecturers were not their enemies, stressing that the union’s demand was for an education system that works for both current and future generations.
“Dear Students, your true adversaries are not the lecturers. We are advocating for an educational system that functions effectively for you, for us and future generations,” Oguji said.
He advised students to peacefully engage the relevant authorities and push for the implementation of agreements reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
According to him, implementing the outstanding agreements would help create the conditions needed for the strike to be resolved and lecturers to return to the classrooms.
The prolonged dispute has, however, increased anxiety among IMSU students, particularly over examinations conducted during the industrial action. Questions have also emerged over whether scripts from those examinations will be assessed by lecturers who were not involved in the process.
Oguji maintained that IMSU lecturers remain willing to return to work and continue their academic responsibilities, insisting that the union’s objective is to ensure students receive proper teaching, fair assessment and credible qualifications.
He said the responsibility for ending the dispute now rests largely with the authorities, urging them to implement the outstanding agreements and take concrete steps to resolve the crisis.
