Enyimba Rally Behind Players Ahead of First Home Test Against Inter Lagos

Enyimba have received a boost from the club’s leadership ahead of Sunday’s EUROMATCH-NPFL Matchday 4 clash with Inter Lagos at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.

The fixture is scheduled for 4pm on Sunday, September 20, and is set to be Enyimba’s first home league game of the 2026/27 season. The club’s Matchday 3 meeting with Shooting Stars was postponed, with the rearranged fixture now listed for September 30.

Enyimba are still searching for their first points of the campaign after losing their opening two matches. They were beaten 2-1 by Niger Tornadoes in Minna before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Doma United in Gombe.

With the team preparing for its home debut, the Enyimba board, led by chairman and former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu, visited the players at their training ground on Wednesday.

The meeting was the first interaction between the board and the squad this season and was aimed at encouraging the players ahead of their first appearance before the home supporters.

Speaking on behalf of the board, Vice Chairman Captain Eric Iheanacho Asogwa assured the players that the club’s leadership remained behind them.

“Our Chairman is a man of peace. We are here to support him and to support the club as well,” Asogwa said.

He also reminded the players of the expectations surrounding Enyimba and urged them to respond on the pitch.

“Many people are looking up to you, including younger ones. Enyimba should win the league this season. We are here to promise you our support,” he added.

The People’s Elephant will face an Inter Lagos side that has also endured a difficult start to the campaign. The NPFL’s official table shows Inter Lagos without a point after three matches, while Enyimba have played two and are also yet to register a point.

Inter Lagos lost their opening three fixtures against Shooting Stars, Doma United and Sporting Lagos, with the latest defeat coming in a 3-0 loss to Sporting Lagos in the Lagos derby.

The meeting in Aba therefore brings together two teams seeking their first points of the season. For Enyimba, it also marks the beginning of their home campaign after their first scheduled home fixture was postponed.

The club’s board has made its support clear. The next response will come from the players when Enyimba host Inter Lagos on Sunday.
