2027: Tanimu Turaki-led PDP Joins G-100 Alliance to Challenge APC

The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has joined the G-100 alliance, signalling a fresh push by opposition forces to build a united platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The factional PDP Interim National Working Committee announced its participation in the opposition coalition following the G-100 summit held on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the decision was driven by the need to work with other credible political forces to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and address what it described as worsening hardship, insecurity and poverty in the country.

The summit brought together representatives of six opposition political parties to discuss areas of cooperation and explore the possibility of establishing a broader platform capable of mounting a stronger challenge against the APC in 2027.

The Turaki-led PDP said its participation demonstrated its commitment to building an all-opposition front that could defeat the ruling party and “rebuild Nigeria.” The party said its position was consistent with its earlier willingness to work with like-minded political parties and organisations seeking what it described as a way out of the country’s challenges.

According to the party, its involvement in the G-100 process is based on principles including transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and egalitarianism. It said a political process guided by those principles could produce credible leadership capable of tackling poverty and insecurity.

The PDP’s position reflects the growing efforts among opposition groups to overcome political divisions and develop a common strategy ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the effectiveness of the alliance will depend on whether the participating parties can agree on a common structure, leadership and electoral strategy.

The G-100 initiative therefore adds another layer to the opposition realignment ahead of 2027, as parties and political figures seek ways to consolidate their strength and present a more coordinated challenge to the APC.
