Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have revealed why they chose an intimate wedding at home instead of the lavish celebration many fans expected from one of the world’s most famous couples.
The couple announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post on August 11, confirming that they had exchanged vows privately at their home in Cascais, Portugal. Rather than choosing a grand venue, the pair held the ceremony in the living room of their mansion.
The decision marked a major shift for Rodriguez, who said she once imagined her wedding as a traditional fairy-tale event. Speaking to Vogue, she recalled dreaming as a child of a huge castle, an elaborate carriage, a long wedding gown and a diamond-covered crown.
Her priorities changed with time, however. Rodriguez said she eventually realised that she wanted something more personal — a ceremony shared with Ronaldo and their children in the place they call home.
The model explained that luxury had become part of their everyday lives, making an extravagant wedding less meaningful to her. Castles, houses, islands, horses and cars are accessible to the family, she said, but an intimate celebration surrounded by loved ones offered something they could not simply buy.
The living room was particularly important because it is where the family spends much of its daily life. Rodriguez said they deliberately chose the space where they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner to make their wedding vows part of the family’s everyday history.
She also said the decision was made with their children’s memories in mind. Rodriguez hopes that decades from now, they will remember the family table as the place where their parents exchanged their wedding vows and marked an important moment in their lives.
The choice gives the high-profile couple’s wedding a distinctly personal character, showing that even amid extraordinary wealth and global fame, Rodriguez and Ronaldo wanted the occasion to centre on family rather than spectacle.
