President Bola Tinubu has outperformed every democratically elected president in Nigeria, according to All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka.

Morka made the claim during an interview with Channels Television on Monday while defending the Tinubu administration’s economic record and the reforms introduced since the president took office.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” Morka said.

Asked what indicators supported such a sweeping assessment, the APC spokesman pointed to the state of Nigeria’s economy. He argued that the government inherited an economy in severe difficulty and that the results of its policies were increasingly visible at the macroeconomic level.

Morka blamed previous administrations for the economic problems inherited by Tinubu, with particular criticism directed at the 16 years the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spent in power before the APC took control of the federal government in 2015.

He also defended former President Muhammadu Buhari’s record, describing his administration as a “stopgap” that, in his view, prevented the country from deteriorating further before Tinubu took over.

According to Morka, Tinubu’s economic reforms have helped Nigeria move beyond what he described as a period of severe economic pressure. He said the country had “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level, arguing that even some critics were beginning to recognise changes produced by the reforms.

The comments come amid continued debate over the impact of Tinubu’s economic policies, including reforms aimed at changing the structure of the Nigerian economy. Morka’s assessment is the APC’s political defence of the administration and was not accompanied in the report by an independent comparison of Tinubu’s performance with previous elected presidents.
