The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance as they reveal that their father is battling stage-four cancer.
Lima and Kira Taiwo made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, medical professionals and anyone with access to cancer treatment facilities to help their father. They stressed that the family was seeking medical intervention, not financial donations.
Lima said the actor’s condition had worsened and claimed that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him. She said the family only became aware of the seriousness of his condition about three weeks ago, despite the illness not being obvious from his appearance.
According to her, the family is willing to explore available medical options if they can find a facility or specialist prepared to take on the actor’s case. She also acknowledged the support of a relative who had stepped in to assist the family during the difficult period.
Kira separately confirmed that her father’s cancer had reached stage four and said the family had been told that further chemotherapy could not be administered. She appealed to cancer specialists and medical facilities capable of providing treatment to contact the family.
She also disclosed that Senator Yayi had been assisting the family financially and paying medical bills. However, she repeated that their current appeal was for someone who could provide medical treatment rather than financial assistance.
The daughters’ appeals have drawn attention from members of the entertainment industry and the public, with calls for support for the veteran actor. Kira became emotional while describing her father’s condition and said she had never seen him experience such severe pain.
Taiwo Hassan, 66, has spent more than four decades in the Nigerian film industry and has appeared in more than 300 movies. He remains one of the most recognisable actors in Yoruba-language cinema.
As of the time of reporting, neither the actor’s management nor his family had released a detailed official statement identifying the specific type of cancer or the hospital where he had been receiving treatment. The family’s appeal centres on finding qualified medical professionals or facilities that can assess his condition and determine what treatment options remain available.
