The wife of Delta State content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu of Asaba, has denied allegations that her husband raped 20-year-old Favour Agbro, saying the two only had an affair.
The woman, whose name was not disclosed, made the claim in a video shared on Ogbonna’s social media page on Wednesday. She said she had followed developments in the case and decided to speak out while maintaining her support for her husband.
Ogbonna, 40, was arrested by the Delta State Police Command following allegations surrounding Favour’s death. Police said the young woman travelled to Asaba after Ogbonna allegedly offered to teach her how to create and monetise content on TikTok and Facebook.
The police alleged that Ogbonna later took Favour to a hotel, where she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted. Favour subsequently returned home distressed, told her parents about the alleged incident and later recorded a video about her experience, according to the police.
She later ingested a toxic substance and died while receiving treatment. The police said Ogbonna’s arrest followed a petition from Favour’s family and that investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death and the allegations against the content creator were ongoing.
Rejecting the rape allegation, Ogbonna’s wife said: “Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. I know my husband…. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl.” She also said she did not believe her husband was capable of rape and insisted she would continue to stand by him.
The woman, who said she had been married to Ogbonna for eight years and has four children with him, urged the public not to treat social media commentary as a substitute for legal proceedings. She said her husband would have an opportunity to give his own account of events when he returns.
The police have said Ogbonna is expected to be charged to court, while the allegations remain under investigation. Ogbonna has not been convicted of any offence, and the competing accounts surrounding the case will ultimately be tested through the appropriate legal process.
