The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Patrick Daor, has promised to make respect for residents a priority as he assumes leadership of the state police command.
Daor made the commitment on Monday during the formal handover ceremony at the Edo State Police Headquarters in Benin City. He took over from Monday Agbonika, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The new commissioner said he would strengthen the command’s crime-fighting efforts by reviewing existing strategies and building on the gains recorded under his predecessor. He also promised to make the command more responsive to security concerns across the state.
Daor said every police officer under his leadership would be expected to treat members of the public with respect, while the command would work to rebuild trust between the police and residents.
He also announced an open-door approach, urging residents to share information and raise security concerns directly with the command. Daor said such complaints would be handled professionally and without hesitation.
The new CP further described his vision for an active and highly mobile police command, with officers expected to respond quickly to incidents and other issues affecting residents across Edo State.
Agbonika, who handed over the command after his tenure as commissioner, said crime had been reduced significantly during his time in office. He expressed appreciation to police personnel, religious leaders and the Edo State Government for their support throughout his tenure.
Daor’s assumption of office comes with a pledge to combine stronger policing with improved relations between officers and the public, as the Edo State Police Command seeks to maintain security and respond more effectively to emerging threats.
